My how time-pies fly!

I started this on July 29th with the intention of finishing and publishing that day.  But two weeks later I’ve stumbled upon it and thought “How on earth did I think there was time to blog that day?!”  Though today holds its own stories, no harm sharing a little history:

Today I uploaded some cucumbers into a Bread & Butter recipe that I created.  They’ve processed and are now sitting on the shelf in their shiny jars, ready to put on the shelf for winter-store.  I feel so smug when I can cross that type of thing off of the list!  I would like to score more cucumbers tomorrow at the Walloomsac Farmers’ Market in Bennington, which I think I can do, and make some more Bread and Butters and some Dills, also.

some Dill and B & B pickles

a few jars left!

In other news, I’m making a thousand pies.  They’re in various stages of preparation.  I made the crust (regular recipe x 2 and whole wheat recipe x 1) so that I can have all of the shells and top crusts ready to go in the morning when I put the fillings in and bake them.  I have to be out of here at an early hour and don’t have time to create from scratch on Saturday mornings.  As much prep work as possible while retaining the freshness of the ingredients is key.

Market Day July 30th

Market Day July 30th

Charlotte turns 16 tomorrow!  I can’t believe it was 16 years ago that I was readying to go to the hospital, leaving little 4 year old and 2 year old Jody & Sarah Jane behind while I went in a on a Saturday to have her…I didn’t know she was a she, of course, but I do remember feeling really ready.  And I really thought I’d have her naturally, too, but sadly I was in labor for about 23 hours and just too weak so I had a 3rd C-section.   Anyway, she was healthy and beautiful and I will never forget how much joy our family shared the day that she was born.

Charlotte's 16th

Editor’s Note:  It might amuse you to know that since I’d written this, Char and Sarah Jane had a little time together on vacation while I was working and they chose lovely shades of purple and pink to dye Char’s hair with!  She has gone from spunky-to-punky!  One of the gifts I had given her for her 16th birthday was a penant on a chain which reads “I solemnly swear I am up to no good!”  For all of you HP fans, you’ll appreciate the joke but I am finding more irony in it everyday!
