Farm & Home Series: Natural Dyeing, Ecoprinting & Herbal Bounty Workshops at Wing & A Prayer Farm

Farmers Tammy & Char will lead the workshops at this weekend event in June on the farm. There’ll be 3 sessions to choose from, or choose all three for a wonderful weekend of learning and creating in the country. Tammy will teach Natural Dyeing on Saturday from 9 - noon and Ecoprinting & Bundle Dyeing using forage from the Dye Garden from 2 - 5:00. Char will teach Herbal wreath-making, tinctures, teas and sachets on Sunday using fresh ingredients from the Herb Garden.

Saturday, June 22, 9 - noon: During the Natural Dye Workshop, the farm will provide our raw materials for local color and we’ll explore extracting and combining with natural tannins and mordants to create a variety of colors with modifiers. You will have a tour of the Dye Garden on the farm and harvest where materials are ready. No prior knowledge of Natural Dyeing is necessary and this workshop is appropriate for all levels. We will dye protein and cellulose fibers and you will go home with a project’s worth of Wing & A Prayer Farm wool & fabric samples.

Saturday, June 22, 2 - 5:00: The Ecoprinting Workshop will focus on extracting color and print through hapazome(pounding) and bundle dyeing. We’ll use forage and found materials and experiment with different methods of transfer color and design naturally onto swatches and samples of silk and cotton fabrics.

Sunday, June 23, 9 - noon: In Char’s Herbal Bounty Workshop, you’ll learn basic herb garden tending, harvesting and producing beautiful wreaths for a variety of uses, ranging from culinary and household to gardening and self-care. This 3-hour workshop will include a tour of the gardens at Wing & A Prayer Farm, construction of herbal swags, wreaths or blends to take home, and tailored discussions of planning and improving your own herbal plots.

As always, connections to kindness & sustainability in the natural world will be the foundation of our farms’ offerings, reinforcing how we can connect art and health in our everyday living, taking care to avoid insulting our earth.

Saturday’s break from noon to 2:00 allows for participants to bring a picnic lunch and relax at the farm, or to skip out to local markets and eateries if desired.

Classes are each $65 and include materials.
