Valais Blacknose Shetland Wool Hand Woven Blankets

Valais Blacknose Shetland Wool Hand Woven Blankets
Experience a hyper-local wool blanket that uses the wool from our Valais Blacknose Sheep and a few of our Shetland sheep and then hand dyed in natural colors from our farm’s dye garden, or left natural and undyed.
Valais Blacknose sheep are a rare long wool breed that we raise on our farm in Vermont. Their long, lustrous locks are silky and strong and we add some of our Shetland wool fiber for the fiber to felt together more easily when the mills need to spin our special blend. The Shetland sheep that we raise grow a fine, crimpy wool that helps the long, strong Valais locks spin together for these rare blankets.
The blankets are fringed throws that measure 73” x 58” weighing 2.5 lbs and are woven by Peggy Hart of Blanketweave in nearby Buckland, Massachusetts.
The colors that we dye with are harvested from our garden or foraged from nearby in the fields and forest. We make kettles of plant pigment that combines with the beautiful and lustrous wool yarn to make unique, bespoke colors.
It is a 3 year process, from shearing day to when the blankets are ready to purchase. We work intently with hardworking individuals and small businesses to bring these farm treasures to you.
