Fair Isle Taster with Gudrun Johnston Workshop

Fair Isle Taster with Gudrun Johnston Workshop
August 3, 2 - 5:00 p.m. - Join Designer/Author/Artist Gudrun Johnston at Wing & A Prayer Farm
In this class we will dip our toes into the world of Fair Isle knitting! We will look at choosing colors, color dominance, stranding the yarn, speed swatching in the round and we will even do some steeking (cutting into our knitting)!
We will be working with a tried-and-true product, 100% Shetland yarn, traditionally used for Fair Isle knitting. This class is intended as an introduction to Shetland wool and its suitability to stranded knitting.
Your fee includes 5 skeins of Jamieson’s Shetland yarn which you will pick out at the Wing & A Prayer Farm Wool Shop. Jamieson’s yarns are spun minutes away from her family’s home in Shetland.
Gudrun Johnston was born in Shetland in the 70's when her mother was running a knitwear design company, The Shetland Trader. Since living in the U.S, she has followed in her mother's footsteps by reviving the Shetland Trader name, including facets of her heritage in her work. Her most recent book of knitwear was published in 2023 with Laine Publishing and co-authored with Mary Jane Mucklestone. A Shetland Wool Week Patron in 2017, Gudrun often teaches at Wool Week.
Gudrun frequently travels back to Shetland where her father and brother currently live. She will be moving to Shetland for a longer stay, soon, so join her at the farm now before she leaves!
