Make Your Own Canvas Tote Bag with Tannei Casey

$165.00

Tannei Casey is a sewist, knitter and owner of tanneicasey handmade LLC.  She studied fashion design in college where she honed her skills in pattern drafting, sewing, and dressmaking.  In 2009, she opened her Etsy shop selling mostly bags and pouches to share her work with those who appreciate the art of handmade goods.  She eventually shifted her work to focusing on making bags for knitters to combine her love of knitting and sewing.

In this very rare opportunity, Tannei has agreed to teach a class on how to make your own lined canvas tote bag with magnetic closure and leather strap handles.  We will be using waxed canvas for the bottom of the tote, a lighter weight printed canvas for the body of the bag, and a heavy cotton canvas for the lining.  Tannei will be bringing an assortment of fabrics from her private stash for you to use for the class.  In the class, you will learn about fabric selection for your project, using rotary cutter to cut the fabrics, attaching an interior patch pocket to the lining, how to line a bag, attaching a magnetic closure and using rivets to attach the leather handles.  Each student will go home with their very own tote bag that they made!

We will provide all the materials, supplies and tools (fabric, scissors, rotary cutters, pins/clips, thread).  Of course, you can bring your own to use, if you prefer.  We will have a limited supply of sewing machines so if you can bring your own, it would be greatly appreciated.  Because Tannei is a bag maker and not a pattern designer, there will be minimal written instruction / information for the class.  Please bring pen, pencils, paper and notebook so you can take notes.

To ensure you have the best experience, students should have basic knowledge of working on a sewing machine.

Class duration 4 hours.   It could take less or more time, depending on student experience.

If the weather is nice we may set our chairs up out with the lambs. It is designed to help support the body in ways that directly benefit knitting and sewing—helping to relieve tension in the neck, shoulders, wrists, and back while improving posture and circulation. Through simple breathwork and mindful movement, you’ll feel more comfortable, focused, and energized, making it easier to enjoy your craft for longer. Weather permitting, class will be held outside among the lambs for an extra dose of fresh air and feel-good energy. Accessible for all levels, this class offers a relaxing reset that supports both creativity and well-being.
